Richard van Frankenberg and his flying 550 Spyder

Richard van Frankenberg (1922-1973)

He raced in a lot event like the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the 1950s, and competed in the Mille Miglia, Montlhery, Monza and Nürburgring, in a Porsche 550. It was a 550 that he crashed over the banking of the AVUS in Berlin. The Porsche went over the top and Frankenberg was thrown from the car. He survived with only minor injuries. Jean Behra was not so lucky and was killed in a similar accident in 1959.

Frankenberg was killed in a roadway accident in 1973.
